Halfway through the first period, the fourth-seeded Youngstown Phantoms trail the top-seeded Green Bay Gamblers, 1-0, at the Covelli Centre.

Two minutes into the game, the Phantoms had the first power-play chance, but the Gamblers were the ones who benefited.

Penalty killer Alex Broadhurst stole the puck at center ice and skated untouched into the Phantoms zone and backhanded the puck between goaltender Matt O’Connor’s pads for a 1-0 lead.

The Phantoms registered no shots on goaltender Ryan McKay during that man-advantage.

Before Tuesday’s Game 3, Phantoms coach Anthony Noreen said the Phantoms could not afford a slow start.

“We learned on Saturday night that anything less than our absolute best is going to leave us a great distance from this team,” said Noreen, referring to the 7-1 defeat in Game 1. “We have to absolutely be at our best to have a chance against them. That’s fine — we want that challenge.”
