“birdsong” (9 p.m., PBS): “Masterpiece Classic” continues its standout season with a two-part adaptation of Sebastian Faulk’s best-selling novel, “Birdsong.” It’s the poignant story of two lovers (Eddie Redmayne and Clemence Posey) torn apart by World War I.
“Veep” (10 p.m., HBO): Julia Louis-Dreyfus returns to series television in an over-the top comedy that has her playing a hapless and potty-mouthed vice president. The cast also includes Anna Chlumsky and Tony Hale.
“Firelight” (9 p.m., abc): Cuba Gooding Jr. stars in this new show in which he plays a counselor at a correctional facility for young women. He helps his charges turn their lives around as members of a volunteer group that battles forest fires, performs rescue missions and assists during national disasters.

WYSU pledge drive

Listener-supported WYSU 88.5 FM, Youngstown State University’s public radio service, will conduct its annual spring pledge drive Tuesday through Friday.
The goal is $115,000.
Everyone who pledges support to WYSU (either as a new member, a renewing member, or with an additional gift) between now and the end of the spring pledge drive, will be entered into a drawing to win a pair of tickets on a Go Ahead Tours 11-day Tour of Vienna, Budapest and Prague.
The station will also offer daily prize packages, a new- member prize package and a Pennsylvania-member prize package. All of the prize packages will include a new HD Radio. No donation necessary to be entered into prize drawings.
With support from idmi.net, all Web pledges made through www.wysu.org will qualify for a partial match.
