Library branch will host tree ID program

The Liberty Branch Library of the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library, 415 Church Hill-Hubbard Road, will host a free program about identifying Ohio trees at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Master Gardener Joyce Hamilton will share information about identifying trees and will take participants outside to practice identifying trees near the library. No reservations are required. For information call the branch library at 330-759-2589 or visit www.wtcpl.org.

Workshops to help girls’ self-esteem

YOUNGSTOWN

A Bridge from Coal to Diamond Girls will host personal development and self-esteem-building workshops for girls in Mahoning County in Mahoning County ages 10 to 13. The program was made possible by a Neighborhood Success Grant from the Raymond John Wean Foundation.

The workshops will provide a variety of activities. Topics include bullying, cultural diversity, hygiene and youth financial literacy.

Workshops will be at two locations: Jewish Community Center from noon to 4 p.m. May 5, 12 and 19; and Newport Library from noon to 3 p.m. April 28, May 26, June 30, July 28 and Aug. 25.

Saturday Author Chat to feature journalist

WARREN

Warren-Trumbull County Public Library, 444 Mahoning Ave. N.W., will host Matt Lupica at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Quiet Reading Room on the first floor. Lupica, a freelance journalist and writer from Macedonia, will discuss his book “The Baseball Stadium Insider,” subtitled “A comprehensive dissection of all 30 ballparks, the legendary players and the memorable moments.”

He will talk about the features, facts and figures that make each stadium unique, as part of the library’s Saturday Author Chat series. The program is free; reservations are not required.

French conversation classes to start in May

French conversation classes for beginners and intermediates will be offered in May at Beyond Expectations Speech Therapy, 725 Boardman-Canfield Road, E-1, Boardman, and at St. Rose Church, 48 E. Main St., Girard.

Class dates and times will be determined by registration.

AMVETS post to host 8 ball tournament

SALEM

AMVETS Post 45, 750 S. Broadway St., will host a double elimination 8-ball tournament from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. May 5. Free pool will be offered from 7 to 9 p.m. May 4.

The public is invited (no professionals). There will be a $2,000 payout for the top five places, based on 100 players. Registration fee is $25.
