Food drive planned by letter carriers

Youngstown District Council of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, through its food pantry at 317 Via Mount Carmel, Youngstown, will be one of the recipients of the 20th annual National Association of Letter Carriers’ food drive May 12.

Along with the National Association of Letter Carriers Branch 385, co-sponsors are the U.S. Postal Service, Campbell Soup Co., Valpak Direct Marketing, National Rural Letter Carriers Association, United Way Worldwide, AFL-CIO’s Community Services Network, Feeding America and Uncle Bob’s Trucking.

Support also is provided by Family Circus cartoonist Jeff Keane, who created a special cartoon in memory of his father, Bil, to promote the drive.

On May 12, letter carriers pick up food left out by the customers’ mailboxes to be given to area food pantries. All food collected stays in the city in which it was collected.
