Community Bible Study, a 30-week interdenominational Bible study, will mark its 20th year in Youngstown.

A reunion brunch of all former class members and children is planned from 9:30 a.m. to noon May 3 at Tabernacle Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 2432 S. Raccoon Road.

Reservations are requested by May 1 by calling 330-758-4276.

There is no charge to attend.

Stewardship event

BOARDMAN

The Diocese of Youngs-town Stewardship Commission, in conjunction with St. Charles Borromeo Parish’s Stewardship Commission, will host its second collaborative stewardship event.

Stewardship Alive will be from 8:30 a.m. to noon next Saturday at St. Charles.

All clergy, parish staff, parish leaders and those interested in learning about the stewardship way of life may attend.

Keynote speaker Julie Kenny, “Our Sunday Visitor” stewardship service manager, will share practical ideas about how to incorporate stewardship within parishes in the wake of parish reconfiguration. She will offer practical ideas on how people can live as stewards in their daily lives.

The conference will include two breakout sessions featuring six workshops. The cost is $15 ($10 if three or more attending from one parish/school).

Day of Prayer

The City Prayer Team of Youngstown will mark National Day of Prayer on May 3 with the theme, “One Nation Under God.”

The opening event will be at 6:30 a.m. at DiVeste Banquet Hall, 754 N. River Road, Warren, with guest speaker Warren Mayor Doug Franklin. Pastor Rick Oaks is Warren coordinator.

A community observance will be from noon to 1 p.m. at the corner of Market and West Federal streets, Youngstown. Speaker will be Pastor Everett Whiteside of Higher Praise Church. Larry Stephens is Youngstown coordinator.

Anniversary concert

In celebration of the 90th anniversary of Christ Lutheran Church, 250 Sexton St., the Boardman Brass Quintet will perform at the 10:15 a.m. service Sunday.

The quintet consists of music educators from local school districts.

“Journey of Spring” will be at 2 and 3 p.m.

Labyrinth walks from May through September will alternate between Tuesday and Thursday nights. The schedule is “Journey of Mary” at 6:30 p.m. May 22, “Journey of Summer” at 6:30 p.m. June 21, “Journey of Freedom” at 6:30 p.m. July 24, “Journey of Harvest” at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 23 and “Journey of Learning” at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 25. The last walk will be at 2 p.m. Oct. 21, the Feast of St. Ursula, on the theme, “A Journey of Autumn.”

Taste of the Faiths

Mahoning Valley Association of Churches will sponsor its annual Taste of the Faiths Festival at 5:30 p.m. May 7 at St. Charles Borromeo Church social hall, 7345 Westview Drive.

Congregations are invited to prepare specialties from their churches in appetizers, meat dishes, vegetables, breads, desserts, cookies and pizza. Suggested number of portions is 50 that are small enough so that people can sample a variety of offerings. Hot or cold food should be ready to eat.

Silent and pick-a-prize auctions are planned. Entertainment will be featured at 6:30 p.m. Youngstown Area Ukranian Dancers directed by Fred Vasnnoski will entertain.

Cost is $15 a person in advance or at the door by cash or check.

Blessing of bikes planned

Trinity Lutheran Church, 56 N. Chestnut St., will conduct a blessing of the bikes at noon April 29 in the church parking lot. Any style is welcome — motorcycle, bicycle, tricycle, skate board, scooter, etc.

Training scheduled

Hermitage Fire and Police department and St. Paul’s United Church of Christ will host training for fire and police chaplains, other first responders, clergy, and mental-health providers. A two-day class on suicide prevention, intervention and postvention will be offered May 21 and 22 in Hermitage Fire Station 3. The course is from the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation, and continuing education hours will be awarded. The Rev. David Williamson is organizer.

Diocesan council to meet

Youngstown Diocesan Council of Catholic Women will meet May 9 at St. Barbara’s Parish, 2813 Lincoln Way. Registration and continental breakfast will be from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. followed by a short business meeting.

The program will feature a presentation on the three doctors of the Catholic Church who are women. Lunch and a panel discussion will follow.

Healing room opens

Lifecare Ministry Center, 5357 S. Raccoon Road, has announced the opening of Greater Youngstown Area Healing Room with Lucille Orr, director, and Dennis Orr, co-director.

The room is open from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays to people of all churches.

Training classes will be offered for those interested in becoming a member of the healing prayer team.

Guest preacher

St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, 159 Todd Ave., will host the Rev. Alan Yudt as guest preacher at the 11 a.m. service Sunday.

He was ordained at St. Paul’s 40 years ago and recently retired as pastor of the Jerusalem Church in Manheim, Pa. His sermon title will be “Then Came the Morning.”

His wife, Connie, will sing a solo with the same title after her husband’s message. His father, Jacob Yudt, 96, has been a member of St. Paul’s for more than 60 years.
