Relay for Life plans bowling fundraiser

The Youngstown Orthopaedic Associates Boardman Relay for Life team will sponsor a “Saturday Night Fever” bowling event from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Camelot Lanes, 728 Boardman-Canfield Road, to raise funds for the American Cancer Society.

The $15 admission price covers two hours of bowling and free shoes. A disco-outfit contest, disco music, spinning disco ball and a 50/50 raffle also are planned.

YOA supports an employee team that stages fundraising events throughout the year. The funds are donated through the cancer society’s Boardman Relay for Life, staged annually in May at Boardman Center Middle School.

Groups plan event

WARREN

YWCA Warren and Partners for a Peaceful Community are sponsoring a Stand Against Racism event from 4 to 5 p.m. Thursday at the YWCA, 375 N. Park Ave.

Mayor Doug Franklin will be guest speaker.

Warren schoolchildren will display art projects that depict how they see racism, and students from the YW’s mentoring program will perform a skit depicting how racism plays a role in our everyday lives.

Refreshments will be provided by the Warren Junior Women’s League.

Partners for a Peaceful Community is a diverse team of organizations and individuals in Trumbull County committed to promoting peace. It was formed after continued senseless violence in the community, including the shooting death of 11-year-old Lloyd McCoy in 2009.

Road closing to replace culvert

YOUNGSTOWN

Mahoning County commissioners voted Thursday to close a mile-long section of Beaver-Springfield Road between Pine Lake and Garfield roads for seven days beginning Wednesday to replace a culvert. Those roads border Beaver and Springfield townships.

Earth Fest 2012 set for Sharon

SHARON, PA.

Penn State Shenango’s Earth Fest 2012 takes place from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, rain or shine, in downtown Sharon.

Festivities will be in the Penn State auditorium and Sharon Hall building on Shenango Avenue. Tire- and computer-recycling events will take place, and there will be entertainment for all ages.
