The Youngstown Foundation has awarded the Ursuline Sisters of Youngstown’s Apartments for Senior Citizens of Limited Income Project a grant of $20,000. Jan Strasfeld, left, executive director of the foundation, recently presented a ceremonial check to Sister Nancy Dawson, right, general superior of the Ursuline Sisters. In May, the Sisters will begin construction in consonance with Universal Design principles on 12 barrier-free apartments in the west wing of their Motherhouse in Canfield, a project that will cost approximately $1.2 million. In addition to gaining safe and affordable housing, area seniors of more moderate income will benefit from socialization and having access to numerous programs offered at The Ursuline Center and Motherhouse. The Youngstown Foundation is the eighth-largest community foundation in Ohio and ranks among the top 10 percent in the country.
