Children celebrate Easter the ‘DQ Way’

For the third year, Chrissy and Ray Smith, owners of the Cornersburg Dairy Queen, invited the community to celebrate the Easter holiday with them March 31.
The Smiths set up several stations for their guests to visit where children received candy-filled eggs.
Stations included a live bunny display, color eggs the ‘DQ way’ and, of course, the Easter Bunny. New this year, customers could also meet Curly the Cone.
Children could color ‘eggs,’ which involved an ice cream cupcake in a cup with an Easter egg drawn on it. The children could use icing, gel and sprinkles to decorate their ‘egg’ with as much creativity as they wanted. Then they could eat it for dessert after enjoying a Dairy Queen lunch or, as some did, just enjoy it as a special lunch treat.
The live bunny display, which had the bunnies in baskets and large cages on the lawn, included five bunnies with some very flavorful names.
“Three of the bunnies are named after Dairy Queen flavors, including Chocolate, Oreo and Cinnamon. The other two, Bat and Smokey, are named for their color,” Chrissy Smith said.
Attendees had their picture taken with the Easter Bunny and picked up their 5-by-7 photo at Walgreens of Cornersburg, compliments of the store.
The Dairy Queen also gave away prizes, including Dairy Queen cakes and a girl basket and boy basket, to the lucky children who found a winning ticket in their plastic egg.
“We thank everyone for coming out to our special events. We like to cater to the whole community, so our events are for kids of all ages, not just the little ones. Everyone is welcome,” Chrissy said.
