Boardman bounces back

Boardman bounced back to take game two from Stow at Spartan Field 12-2 in a shorten five inning contest. Mike Witte improved to 2-1 going the distance for the Spartans. Phil DiIanni led the offensive for Boardman going 3-for-3 with two doubles, two RBIs and three runs scored. Derek Pasquale, Dan Popio, Cameron Rogers and Anthony Pacella all had doubles in the victory. Boardman improves to 8-3-1 (3-0-1).

Boys baseball loses to Stow

Stow scored three runs in the seventh to beat Boardman in game one of a non-league contest at Spartan Field. Nate Knaus suffered the lost as Boardman drops to 7-3 (3-0) on the season. Derek Pasquale went 3-for-5 with a double and a RBI, while Dan Popio was 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and three runs scored. Nico DiIanni, Phil DiIanni, Cameron Rogers and Anthony Pacella all had an RBI for the Spartans.

Boys defeat GlenOak

Troy Parks threw six innings of two hit ball striking out six as he improves his record to 3-0 and the Spartans improve to 6-2-1 (2-0) on the year. Offensively for Boardman, Eddie Crump went 2-for03 with a double and two RBIs. Anthony Pacella, Nathan Knaus and Nico DiIanni added two hits apiece with each having a double.

Brownlee scholarship applications available

Applications for the George Brownlee Scholarship will be available Monday in the high school Guidance office. Eligible candidates include Boardman seniors who have participated in two or more varsity sports. They should also exhibit characteristics of Leadership, Enthusiasm, Friendship, Team Spirit, Industriousness and Humility. These characteristics were evident in Brownlee’s life.

The scholarship is funded by selling bricks to complete the BHS Sports Complex Walkway. The bricks are engraved to permanently recognize the contributor. Many former students, athletes and businesses have joined the effort. For information, visit www.georgebrownlee.com or contact the athletic office. The application deadline is May 3.

Boardman boys top Watterson is national bowling qualifier

Boardman graduate Andrew Watterson, a member of the Moorehead State (Ky.) squad, was runner-up at the sectional bowling tournament in Smyrna, Tenn. He qualified with his team to advance to nationals in Nebraska in April. This is the second consecutive year he advanced to nationals with his team.

Drennan to speak in Valley

Bruce Drennan from All Bets Are Off on Sports Time Ohio will be the guest speaker at the Curbstone Coaches Hall of Fame Banquet. The event will be held at Mr. Anthony’s Banquet Center on May 6 beginning at 6 p.m. For tickets, call Ed Fowler at 330-506-9829.

Boardman tops GlenOak

Danny Watkins picked up his first victory of the season pitching five innings strucking out six as Boardman beat GlenOak in a Federal League contest at Spartan Field.

Nico DiIanni led the Spartans hitting attack going 3-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored. Joe Lendak and Nate Knaus added two hits apiece for Boardman. The Spartans improve to 7-2 and 3-0 in the league.
