Boardman baseball sweeps doubleheader


The Boardman baseball team improved to 5-2 overall after sweeping a doubleheader from Eastlake North last weekend.

The Spartans won the opener 2-1 and claimed the nightcap by a score of 7-6.

Boardman’s Aaron Dill picked up his first career varsity win by going six innings and striking out three in the first game. Senior Troy Parks picked up his first save on the year.

Offensively for Boardman, seniors Cameron Rogers and Donny Kratofil each drove in a run.

In Game 2, sophomore Eddie Crump (1-0) earned his first varsity win by pitching 4 1/3 innings of relief. The Spartans were led offensively by Phil DiIanni, Rogers and Dan Watkins who each collected two hits. Rogers had a triple and two RBIs, while Watkins added a double and two RBIs.

Boardman entered last week undefeated in the Federal League after defeating Lake 11-1.

Senior pitcher Troy Parks (2-0) went the distance in the victory, allowing just one run. Parks scattered five hits and struck out two en route to his first complete game of the year.

The Spartans pounded out 15 hits as every player recorded at least one hit. Leading the way offensively was Rogers, going 2-for--3 with two triples and four RBIs. Senior Dan Popio was also 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Derek Pasquale, Phil DiIanni, Athony Pacella and Nate Knaus each added a double.
