BOARDMAN

Three new restaurants are coming to Boardman, and two of them are filling vacant structures in the township.

Israel Zambrano, owner of Los Gallos Restaurant in Boardman, confirmed that a “Los Gallos Express” is expected to open at the end of June in the former Quaker Steak & Lube Express, 7530 Market St., across from the Southern Park Mall.

The new restaurant will focus on carry-out orders but will offer some seating.

“It’s something new that we have to get it up and organized. We’re bringing a lot of our own equipment in. We’re bringing traditions from Mexico, and everything is fresh,” Zambrano said.

He said there is a small-scale Los Gallos in the mall now, but he wanted a carry-out location with a drive-through.

Los Gallos has expanded rapidly in the past several years. The original Boardman Los Gallos — meaning “The Rooster” after Zambrano’s nickname — added a banquet hall, and full-service restaurants opened in Bedford, North Lima and Struthers, with another restaurant set to open in Austintown in the middle of May.

“I just think atmosphere is so important, and the service and the food,” Zambrano said of his success. “It took us a while to get where we are.”

Another new business in the township will be Aces Fire Grill & Bar, which is moving into 1738 Boardman-Poland Road, the former Lone Star, according to Aces’ website. Aces is known for its hot wings and hamburgers, and its owner, Tom Housteau, used to own Aces Wild Wings at 277 Boardman- Canfield Road in the Boardman Plaza.

Work also is continuing on a new 9,000-square-foot building on the Southern Park Mall property that will be the home of Cheddar’s Casual Cafe. Simon Capital Group of Indianapolis is the listed owner, and the contractor is Harman Construction Inc. of Fort Worth, Texas, records show. This would be the third Cheddar’s restaurant to open in Ohio, joining locations in Mansfield and Findlay.
