Ohio day-care operators charged in fraud scheme

LIMA, Ohio (AP) — Investigators say 10 people in northwest Ohio have been charged in a day-care fraud scheme that cost the state thousands of dollars.

The Ohio Attorney General’s office says three people operating four day cares in the Lima area were illegally billing the state for day care services.

An investigator with the state told The Lima News that they found no children were at the centers. The state says workers at the centers also were receiving pay without having to work.

Investigators say the 10 who are charged worked together to submit inaccurate billing sheets

Charges in the case include engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity, tampering with records, theft and forgery.
