It’s time to puzzle it out again at the library

POLAND

Crossword-puzzle enthusiasts will have another opportunity to showcase their puzzle prowess Saturday at the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County’s second annual Crossword Puzzle Challenge.

The event will start at 10 a.m. at the Poland Branch, 311 S. Main St., with a children’s round, and adult competition begins at 10:30. Three rounds of preliminary competition will be followed by a final, playoff puzzle among the three preliminary winners.

The final round is conducted on large easels so that the audience may observe the contestants compete for the final prize. Solving references and outside help are not permitted during any of the rounds. The winner is determined by accuracy and, if necessary, the solving time will be used to break a tied score.

The event committee includes Natalie Lariccia, John Slanina, and Jack and Sandy Slanina. Sponsors are WYSU, Park Vista of Youngstown and St. Elizabeth Health Center Neurosciences Dept. Event partners are The Vindicator, Metro Monthly, Covelli Enterprises, Panera Bread and The Business Journal.

Registration is $10 for adults and $5 for children. Registration forms, available at all library locations in Mahoning County, may be mailed to the Development Office, Main Library, 305 Wick Ave., Youngstown, OH 44503. For information or for sponsorship opportunities call the development office at 330-740-6086 Ext. 51630.
