YSU softball team swept as Valparaiso throws a shutout

The Youngstown State softball team fell to Valparaiso 7-0 on Sunday at the VU Softball Field as the Crusaders completed the series sweep of the Penguins.

The Penguins fall to 21-12-1 overall and 5-7 in the Horizon League while the Crusaders improve to 28-10 overall and 12-0 in the league.

The Penguins, who owned the second-highest batting average in the Horizon League, were held to just six hits, including two from senior Haley Thomas.

The Crusaders, who were aided by six walks, exploded for five runs in the bottom of the third inning and added one more in both the fifth and sixth innings.
