Theft at phone tower

Hermitage, pa.

Hermitage police are investigating the theft of various items from a cellphone tower on the east side of the city.

The theft, which happened in March, occurred at the tower along the 4000 block of East State Street, according to a police press release.

The perpetrators got away with copper wire, grounding plates and 10 power tools and equipment, police said.

YSU earns honor

The U.S. Department of Education named Youngstown State University to the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll for the third-straight year.

According to a YSU press release, it is the highest federal recognition a school can receive for its “commitment to volunteering, service- learning and civic engage-ment.”

“Civic engagement, community service and service learning are an integral part of the institutional culture of YSU,” said YSU President Cynthia E. Anderson in the release.

Journalist lecture

Youngstown

New Yorker staff writer George Packer will present a free lecture Tuesday at Youngstown State University’s Kilcawley Center.

The lecture titled “Do Journalists Care About the Working Class?” will begin at 7:30 p.m. and is part of the Center for Working Class Studies Lecture Series, according to a YSU press release.

Packer also will meet with local journalists at 4 p.m. at the Center in Smith Hall.

Schizophrenia

Schizophrenia will be the topic of a April 23 lecture from Lon Herman at Youngstown State University.

Herman, a research assistant at the Department of Psychiatry at Northeast Ohio Medical University, will speak at 11 a.m. in Kilcawley Center’s Chestnut Room.

‘Poetry of Islam’

The Center for Islamic Studies at Youngstown State University will host a free presentation titled “The Poetry of Islam in Johann Wolfgang von Goethe” on Tuesday in the Trustees Room in Tod Hall.

Max Reinhart, the A.G. Steer Professor in Goethe Studies at the University of Georgia, will host the lecture at 12:30 p.m., according to a YSU press release.

A banquet with Reinhart will be at 6:30 p.m. in Kilcawley Center’s Presidential Suites. The cost for the banquet is $10 ($5 for students). For reservations, call 330-941-4675.
