Phish, Ben & Jerry’s call for ‘more cowbell’

BURLINGTON, Vt.

The Vermont city of Burlington will have “more cowbell” this weekend when Phish drummer Jon Fishman leads what he hopes to be the World’s Largest Cowbell Ensemble.

The fundraising event Saturday also will celebrate the 15th anniversary of the band’s partnership with Ben & Jerry’s, which created an ice cream flavor named for the band called Phish Food.

Participants pay to be part of the event, then gather and ring cowbells. So far 1,300 people have signed up. The Guinness World record for a cowbell ensemble is 640.

Money raised will go to the WaterWheel Foundation’s Vermont Flood Recovery Fund to help communities as they continue to recover from Tropical Storm Irene that ravaged Vermont last summer.

The foundation was founded by Phish, which got its start in Burlington.

Girlfriend of Gable’s son is found dead

MALIBU, Calif.

The girlfriend of Clark Gable’s only son has died in the couple’s Malibu home.

The body of 41-year-old Christiane Candice Lange was found by John Clark Gable at 9:40 a.m. Wednesday.

Los Angeles County coroner’s office spokesman Ed Winter said Friday that it appears to be a possible natural death, and foul play isn’t suspected. There is a security hold on the case, and Winter says he cannot release any other information.

Sheriff’s Deputy Guillermina Saldana says homicide detectives were called to the home after the body was discovered. Saldana says the investigation is continuing.

John Clark Gable is the only son of the late “Gone With the Wind” star Clark Gable. He was born shortly after his father died of a heart attack at age 59 in 1960.

McCready, boyfriend welcome baby boy

NASHVILLE, Tenn.

Mindy McCready is a mother for a second time.

McCready and boyfriend David Wilson welcomed their son Zayne on Monday. In a statement, McCready called the boy “a blessing and a joy.”

The country singer and former “Celebrity Rehab” star says it was “a long and trying” pregnancy. The statement said McCready would not be doing interviews because of a court directive in the custody case over her first son, Zander.

McCready took Zander from her mother and the boy’s legal guardian, Gayle Inge, late last year. She fled to Arkansas without permission over what she called child-abuse fears. Authorities eventually found McCready and Wilson hiding in a residence without permission and took the boy into custody.

Zander’s status is unclear due to court privacy rules..
