The Ohio Department of Development on Friday approved a $103,600 grant for the Mahoning Valley Sanitary District that will be used with its own matching funds of $103,600 to purchase a lime slaking system.

The system will be installed at the existing drinking-water facility in Mineral Ridge and will aim to improve water quality for the Mahoning and Trumbull county areas.

The DOD also approved a $94,200 grant for the Western Reserve Port Authority, which oversees the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport.

The project will replace approximately 700 feet of water line, replace a 4-inch existing service-connection waterline, replace approximately 350 feet of a copper waterline in or near the airport terminal, install two additional emergency fire hydrants and install service connectors to areas of the airport’s East Site Development Project.

“These projects will benefit the region as it works to create, expand and attract businesses,” said Jason Wilson, director of Ohio Gov. John Kasich’s Office of Appalachia, in a statement. “A strong infrastructure is necessary for the long-term growth of the region.”
