A bull killed a 62-year-old resident of North Park Avenue Extension late Thursday.

The bull attacked Daniel H. Currence Sr. in a pen on the man’s property.

Currence, of 6021 N. Park Ave., was dead at the scene when Champion police officers arrived at 10:23 p.m.

The address is a short distance north of state Route 305.

About 10 minutes before the bull attacked Currence, Currence’s neighbor Tim Nalbach said he saw Currence in the pen trying to get the bull back into the barn.

Nalbach called 911 after hearing Currence yelling, then saw the bull “head-butting [Currence] uncontrollably” on the ground near Currence’s barn, a police report said.

Nalbach said he tried to get the bull’s attention to draw it away from Currence by throwing rocks at it.

When Champion police arrived, Currence was face down and not moving. He had suffered wounds on his back.
