How many ways do I love my dad - let me count.

Students attending Watson’s Kindergarten Math Night with Dad learned a wealth of math skills while celebrating the father figures in their lives March 29.

Dads, uncles, grandparents or any special guests of the kindergartners were welcomed to the event to play games, learn math tools and participate in physical activities.

Kindergarten teacher Trish Reider said she and her fellow teachers tried to mix learning and fun.

“We like for the kids to be enjoying themselves so much that they don’t even really how much they’re learning in the process. We made it easy for parents to take the fun home and we encourage them to use the games and activities so they can become more involved in their kindergartner’s education,” said Reider.

Stations included math board games and money counting.

However, the big hit among guests was the physical activity area, where kindergartners and their guests challenged each other to corn hole games, basketball free throws and long jumps, with points added up for successful attempts. The stations also championed teamwork, with duos having to walk in tandem with “Buddy Walkers” and push each other on scooters and avoid obstacles in a game called “Shipwreck.”

Guests traveled between Watson kindergarten classrooms and the school gym, and through the halls, art projects celebrating “my dad the magnificent” were on display.

On her art project, Nevaeh Shouse wrote that she loves her dad because “He is always funny and filled with joy.”

Nathan Headley celebrated his dad because “he cares about me very much.”

Reider hoped the night was important to young and old.

“It’s a great chance for families to spend quality time together. Kids get to show off all the things that happen at school, and parents and friends get to see how their child has grown and made friends here at Watson. Tonight is about math, but also a lot more,” she added.
