The residents at Poland Shepherd of the Valley got crafty for a cause on April 3.
Activity assistant Tessa Martin enlisted the help of eight enthusiastic facility residents to help decorate Easter baskets to be sent to the Sojourner House in Youngstown. Shepherd of the Valley decided to participate in the good deed after toys and candy were donated to the facility.
Shepherd officials purchased bright Easter baskets, basket grass and other decorative details to provide an beautiful gift for the kids at Sojourner House. The eight volunteers huddled around a table of the goodies and showed their artistic vision as they decorated.
“My decorating style is grab and stash,” said Norma Havanis.
“I just like to do whatever looks good,” offered Viola Mackey.
As the group decorated, Martin reminded them of their good deed.
“The kids at Sojourner House are going to be so happy when they see these baskets Easter morning,” she said.
Martin put in some extra time to add finishing touches to the baskets and wrap them in cellophane for safe travels. “What the residents did today really made a difference. The children at Sojourner House have been through a lot and these gifts will brighten their Easter Sunday. Doing good is important to us here at Shepherd of the Valley and for our residents as well,” Martin added.
