Grant will help replace water line

The Appalachian Regional Commission will present a $94,200 check to the Western Reserve Port Authority at 2 p.m. today to assist the port authority with the replacement and expansion of a water line at the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport.
The line, which is old and experiences frequent leaks, supplies water to the main terminal, said Dan Dickten, director of aviation.
The ARC grant will provide half of the money for the water-line work with remaining funds coming from the $4.50-per-ticket Passenger Facility Charge levied on flights departing from the airport.
The ARC is a partnership of the governors of 13 Appalachian states and a presidential appointee representing the federal government. In Ohio, the program is administered by four Local Development Districts for the 32 Appalachian counties.
Construction of the water line is expected to occur by this fall, Dickten said.
