Dems choose convention delegates

Five men, five women and an alternate have been chosen to represent the 17th Congressional District at the Democratic National Convention the week of Sept. 3 in Charlotte, N.C.

David Betras, chairman of the Mahoning County Democratic Party, listed Jaladah Aslam of Mahoning County, and Deborah Bindas, Capri Cafaro and Judith Puskar of Trumbull and Tara Samples as the women delegates with Charlene Allen as the alternate.

The male delegates are Timothy Callion and Tom Letson, both of Trumbull, George Freeman, Robert Hagan and Sean Tyrone McKinney, all of Mahoning, and John Filak.

Betras couldn’t immediately identify the counties where Filak, Allen and Samples live.

Voting by Democrats from throughout the 17th District, which includes parts of Mahoning, Trumbull, Summit and other counties, occurred Thursday night at Girard High School.
