Boardman girls track team wins relay event
Neighbors | Submitted.The Boardman girls distance medley relay team has broken the school record twice this season already and set a meet and stadium record at the Lakeview Relays. The Boardman girls track team defeated 14 other squads en route to the team championship at the Lakeview Relays April 5. The Spartans scored 80 points to beat second-place Kent Roosevelt (89) and third-place Poland (67).
“Relay meets are fun meets for the athletes and coaches both,” said Boardman coach Denise Gorski. “We get a chance to go after school records and we can get more athletes involved. Special congratulations to the record-setting team in the distance medley relay.”
Leading the way for Boardman was the record-setting distance medley relay team of senior Tori Moore, freshmen Regan O’Hara and Jordan Grantonic, and sophomore Emma Schwendeman. They ran 13:15.02 to break their own record of 13:18.3 set last week at the Dover Relays. They also established a new meet and stadium record, breaking the 1998 record of 13:19.70 set by Field.
The 4x800 relay team of Regan O’Hara, Grantonic, Schwendeman and Trista Cunningham ran a season-best time of 10:26.14 towin the event. Heaton O’Hara, Moore, Nikki Hillard and Lesley Koch teamed up to take the other first-place honor for the team by winning the 4x200 relay in a season-best time of 1:51.2.
In the long jump relay, Nikki Hillard jumped 13-11 æ to place third, Nikki Hillard jumped 13-11 æ and placed third overall, Lauren Davila jumped 13-2, placing 14th overall and Morgan Hambrick was 15th, jumping 13-1 Ω.
In the shot put relay, freshman Ka’Nisha White threw a personal-best of 34-1 æ to place third, Giovanna Silvestri (31-11 º) was fifth and Katrina Watkins (30-10) was seventh.”
The Boardman 4x400 relay, including Heaton O’Hara, Cunningham, Regan O’Hara, and Moore ran 4:22.39 to finish second. The 4x100 relay team ran a season-best of 51.94, consisting of Hope Landers, Morgan Hambrick, Hillard and Koch.
The shuttle hurdle relay team of Landers, Davila, Stephanie DeMain, and Anya Bolger placed third with a time of 1:11.23. The sprint medley relay team of Landers, Hambrick, Hillard and DeMain raced to third in 2:05.66. The discus relay team placed third led by Silvestri (105-3, fifth), Megan Howard (92-9, eighth) and Watkins (83-7,
The 4x1600 meter relay team placed fifth with a time of 27:01.90 and consisted of Kaitlyn Emery, Julia Lewis, Andrah Toney, and Trista Cunningham. The 4x100 Iron Women Relay placed ninth led by throwers Howard, White, Watkins and Silvestri (1:06.85).
