Summit focuses on skilled worker problem
YOUNGSTOWN — As the Mahoning Valley moves forward in economic development, a lack of skilled workers for manufacturing positions could stifle growth.
The OH-PENN Interstate Regional Manufacturing Workforce Summit Thursday at Youngstown State University focused on the problems facing the local manufacturing base in finding qualified workers and how to tackle those issues. The event was sponsored by the Mahoning Valley Manufacturers Coalition.
There are not enough people who have the necessary skills for the modern manufacturing industry, said Brian Benyo, president of Brilex Industries, Inc.
“Skilled labor is very hard to come by, its the most significant challenge facing our businesses in survival and future growth,” Benyo said.
