New Middletown waterline bids opened

All nine bids for the Middletown Road waterline replacement project were under the project’s estimated $140,000 cost.
Bids were opened at Monday’s meeting of New Middletown Village Council.
Bidders are: L & S Excavating and Trucking, New Middletown — $115,123; Miller Yount Paving, Warren — $122,220; Dave Sugar Excavating, New Middletown — $98,770; J.S. Northeast Co., Girard — $113,300; JCM Contracting, New Springfield — $112,954; SET, Lowellville — $139,187; M&M Inc., Vienna — $126,630; Utility Contracting, Youngstown — $130,846; Butch & McCree Paving, Hillsville, Pa. — $120,791.
The project will install new lines on Middletown Road from state Route 170 west almost to Brungard Road. Dave Bakalar of Thomas Fok and Associates, Youngstown, the village engineers, said the Ohio Public Works Commission now must approve the successful bidder before a contract can be awarded. He said work could begin in a month.
Also Monday, council passed legislation setting the stipend at $175 per month for any full-time village employee who does not accept village insurance. Council wanted to make the rates uniform because they ranged from $150 to $175 among employees who were hired at different times.
Chief Vince D’Egidio reported that the annual Drug Takeback Day will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p. m. April 28 at the Municipal Building. Residents are invited to bring expired or unwanted drugs for disposal, no questions asked. No syringes will be accepted. The event is part of a national effort by the federal Drug Enforcement Administration.
Council member Virginia Younger announced the annual free shredding day will be from 10 a.m. to noon June 2 at the municipal building. The village will pay Cintas of North Jackson $400 to shred documents brought by the public. All are invited to bring unwanted documents and watch them being shredded.
