Trial begins for Pa. boy accused of murder at 11
NEW CASTLE, Pa. (AP) — The trial for a Pennsylvania boy who was 11 when prosecutors say he killed his father’s pregnant fiancee and unborn son has begun in juvenile court under tight security including a ban on media in the courtroom.
Reporters at the Lawrence County Courthouse aren’t even permitted on the same floor where Jordan Brown’s murder trial began today.
The 14-year-old Wampum boy is accused of the February 2009 shotgun slaying of 26-year-old Kenzie Houk and her unborn son, who died of oxygen deprivation
The trial has been closed to the media despite court appeals by three newspapers who argued it’s fruitless because details of the crime were reported when the boy was initially charged as an adult.
Brown’s father has proclaimed his son’s innocence.
