FIGHTING HUNGER TOGETHER
Walmart and the Walmart Foundation, The Band Perry, Kimberly Williams-Paisley and four of the nation’s largest food companies — General Mills, ConAgra Foods, Kraft Foods and Kellogg Co. — are participating in an anti-hunger campaign in April to raise 42 million meals nationally.
Walmart customers can participate by shopping at Walmart and Facebook users can visit the company’s Facebook page to vote for one of the 200 communities designated by Walmart as hardest hit by unemployment.
The $2 million in funding from Walmart to the 21 communities selected by Facebook users will go directly to those communities for the purposes of fighting hunger.
Winning communities will be announced May 1. Specific recipients will be determined in May.
In 2010, Walmart committed $2 billion through 2015 to fight hunger.
As part of its commitment, Walmart pledged to donate more than 1.1 billion pounds of food from Walmart stores, distribution centers and Sam’s Club locations, valued at $1.75 billion, as well as $250 million in grants to support hunger relief organizations.
