Calling artists: First Night needs design for its buttons

YOUNGSTOWN

First Night Youngstown is calling on local artists to design First Night Youngstown’s 2013 admission button.

This year’s button will be the first in a series of designs that highlight downtown Youngstown’s historical buildings and architecture. Button designs may use any art medium, including photography, and must depict the Ohio One building, at 25 E. Boardman St.

Entries are due by June 30. A committee will choose one to be the admission button. Entries can be submitted at the FNY office, 25 E. Boardman St., Suite 405. An entry form is available on the FNY website, www.firstnightyoungstownoh.com.

The winning artist will be announced and recognized at the unveiling of the first button series. The artist also will be a celebrity guest in the Christmas parade and tree-lighting ceremony.

The artist and his or her immediate family only will receive free admission to the First Night Youngstown New Year’s Eve Extravaganza.

Design specifications:

• Must depict the outside of Ohio One building.

• Must be a nighttime scene that includes fireworks.

• Must include the phrase “First Night Youngstown 2013.”

• May be horizontal or vertical.

• Must be able to fit to reduction of 2-inches-by-3-inches.
