YSU softball team has winning streak snapped

The Youngstown State softball team’s five-game winning streak was snapped on Friday when the Penguins lost a doubleheader to Horizon League rival Loyola, 11-0 and 9-3.
In the opener, the Penguins (21-8-1, 5-3 HL) were held to just three hits. Loyola (12-16, 5-3) pitcher Brianna struck out seven in the complete-game shutout.
During the second game, the Penguins committed four errors, including three in Loyola’s five-run third inning. Eight of Loyola’s nine runs were unearned.
Another error in the fifth led to three more unearned runs for the Ramblers.
The Penguins jumped out to an early lead when senior Haley Thomas, who went 3 for 4, led off the game with a single and scored on Vicky Rumph’s double to right field.
The Ramblers tied the game with a home run in the bottom of the first before the Penguins scored an unearned run in the second regain the lead, 2-1.
After Loyola’s two big innings gave them a 9-2 lead, sophomore Sarah Ingalls hit a solo home run in the top of the sixth to end the scoring.
Sophomore Casey Crozier pitched a complete game with seven strikeouts and allowed just one earned run but took the loss.

One day after allowing a school-record-tying 32 runs, the YSU baseball team (4-25, 2-9) lost to Wright State 18-2 in a Horizon League game at Nischwitz Stadium.
Drew Dosch hit his fourth home run of the season in the seventh inning, and Jason Shirley had an RBI single in the fifth.
Tristan Moore drove in five runs, and Corey Davis scored five times for Wright State (18-10, 9-2).
Blake Aquadro was charged with eight earned runs on five hits in 31/3 innings before handing the ball off to the bullpen.
