YOUNGSTOWN

Police are investigating the robbery and cutting of an East Side woman as she arrived home Thursday evening.

The 41-year-old Wilmette Lane woman told police she took the city bus home and found the rear door to her house to be jammed. She walked to the front door but was confronted by a black male standing about 5 feet 9 inches tall wearing black jeans and a gray coat with “Nautica” across the front. The man cursed the woman and demanded her purse.

The woman said she struggled with the man over the purse, but the thief pulled out a box cutter and cut her on the hand and attempted to cut her chest before taking the purse and running off.

The woman was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center by ambulance personnel for the cut to her hand.

Police searched the area but did not find the man or the woman’s belongings.
