Cyclist killed

A motorcycle accident killed a Fombell, Pa., man, Pennsylvania State Police in New Castle said.

Randall Lee Hall, 55, died at 3 a.m. Friday when he lost control of his bike on the mile hill on Route 65 near Ellwood City, police said.

Police said Hall lost control on a curve and hit a guard rail. He was thrown from the bike.

Alliance man faces numerous charges

WARREN

Charles S. Hill waived a preliminary hearing in Warren Municipal Court on numerous charges related to his flight from police March 26.

The charges were bound over to a Trumbull County grand jury Thursday, and a judge continued Hill’s $300,000 bond.

Hill, 36, of Alliance, is charged with two counts of felonious assault and single counts of failure to comply with the orders of a police officer, receiving stolen property and abduction.

Agents with the U.S. Marshals Northern Ohio Fugitive Task Force had been looking for Hill for about 10 days on an arrest warrant out of West Virginia for theft when they located him in the Warren Plaza.

Hill reportedly tried to run over two agents in the parking lot, then fled north into Bazetta Township, where he eluded capture until later in the day when he was found in a Liberty motel room.

YSU faculty union to mark 40th year

YOUNGSTOWN

The YSU-OEA, the faculty union at Youngstown State University, will celebrate its 40th anniversary with two public presentations exploring the history and role of faculty unions locally and across the state.

Both events are free and will be in the trustee board’s meeting room in Tod Hall on the YSU campus.

At 3 p.m. Thursday, three of the union’s presidents will discuss the formation, evolution and challenges of the YSU-OEA. Friday at 3 p.m., Cleveland State University law professor Sheldon Gelman will speak about the role of Ohio’s public- university presidents in shaping, promoting and defending Ohio Senate Bill 5.

Titanic anniversary

The Salem Historical Society will commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Titanic’s sinking April 15 with an exhibit that will include a variety of Titanic artifacts and information on the tragedy.

The exhibit, lasting from 1 to 4 p.m. in the society’s meeting room, will include a reverse painting of the Titanic and dishes from the ship Olympia, which was constructed by the same company that built the Titanic.

Lane restrictions

NORTH LIMA

State Route 165 from state Route 626 to state Route 617 and state Route 170 from state Route 617 to the Mahoning County line will have various daily lane restrictions beginning Monday during a resurfacing project.

Traffic will be maintained by flaggers. This is part of a $1.5 million project that will be completed by September.

Poland wins award

POLAND

The state auditor’s office has returned a clean audit for Poland Local Schools with no findings for recovery, no improper expenditures and no improper procedures in accounting of all funds. The district has won the “Auditor of State Award.”
