Police investigate shooting of man

Staff report

YOUNGSTOWN

Police are investigating the Thursday afternoon shooting of a 33-year-old man on the city’s South Side as teens and children walked through the neighborhood.

Police received the call just after 3 p.m. about a possible shooting in the 300 block of East Florida Avenue. When officers arrived, they found Damien Patterson, no address listed, shot twice in the abdomen.

Police said the wounds did not appear to be life-threatening, but the man was taken to a local hospital via Rural Metro ambulance for treatment.

Police are looking for a 20-year-old Brooklyn Avenue man as a suspect. No arrest had been made as of press time Thursday night.

Florida Avenue was blocked off for more than an hour as police conducted the investigation. Those living close to the area stood outside watching the events unfold, and children coming home from school walked along nearby Erie Street and South Avenue.

There was no word on Patterson’s condition.
