With the gym resembling a carnival midway, Hilltop Elementary School students and their families enjoyed games galore at the PTO’s annual Winter Carnival March 23.

In addition to the games, the evening included dinner and a Dairy Queen sundae bar.

Carnival games included gorilla grenades, basketball free throw, ping pong toss, bases loaded, gopher golf, ladder ball, frog flinger, football throw and potty toss. The children also had the opportunity to have their faces painted, get tattoos and get all decked out to take pictures in the photo booth. Bounce-A-Round also brought in a super slide.

The event, chaired by Amy Kinkade, is the PTO’s biggest fundraiser of the year and proceeds go toward purchasing technology for the school.

Members of the Canfield High School’s National Honor Society volunteered to work the games at the carnival.

Lining the hallways outside the gym were baskets for the Chinese auction, which was chaired by Karin Hudock. Each class at the school was assigned a theme for a class basket, such as candy overload, snack attack, family movie night and Canfield Cardinals, and students were invited to donate items to be included in the basket.

Local businesses, such as T.P Tools and Equipment, Stadium G.M., Wild Birds Unlimited, Great Harvest Bread Company, Magnolias on the Green, Fairway Ford and Duo Corp. donated items to be included in the auction.

A total of 21 classroom baskets and 35 business baskets were up for grabs.

A bake sale was also held during the carnival with donations provided by Hilltop families.

Winners of the baskets were announced at the end of the evening by Hilltop Elementary School Principal Cathy Mowry, along with the winner of the 50/50 raffle.
