Man shot on South Side this afternoon
YOUNGSTOWN — Police are investigating the shooting of an unnamed man on the city’s South Side this afternoon as teens and children walked through the neighborhood.
Police received the call just after 3 p.m. about a possible shooting in the 300 block of East Florida. When officers arrived they found a man, who appeared to be in his 20s, shot twice in the abdomen.
Police say the wounds do not appear to be life threatening, but the man was rushed to the hospital by Rural Metro ambulance for treatment.
Florida Avenue was blocked off for more than an hour as police conducted the investigation. Those living close to the area stood outside watching the events unfold, and children coming home from school walked along nearby Erie Street and South Avenue.
There have been no arrests, but police were looking for a light-skinned black male riding a scooter immediately after the shooting.
There was no word on the victim’s condition.
