Grant to help form Senior Hotline

The Episcopal Diocese of Ohio has awarded Help Hotline Crisis Center a $13,000 grant to be used for a Senior Hotline operating 24 hours-a-day, 7 days-a-week addressing the needs of senior citizens, particularly in the areas of suicide and crisis intervention. Easter eggs donated

American egg farmers are supporting Feeding America food banks nationwide by donating 12 million eggs to help feed hungry Americans. On Monday, Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley, a member of Feeding America, received 10,800 eggs or 900 dozen from Hillandale Farms in time for the Easter holiday. “We greatly appreciate this donation of eggs and the year-round support of Hillandale Farms,” said Michael Iberis, executive director of the Food Bank. Second Harvest Food Bank provides food to 153 hunger relief organizations in Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties. Akron Children’s receives donation

Akron Children’s Hospital of Mahoning Valley received a $2,500 donation from the Dunkin’ Donuts & Baskin-Robbins Community Foundation. The money was raised through donations by guests to foundation canisters and fundraisers in each store.

Spine services added

WARREN

St. Joseph Health Center reintroduced spine services earlier this year that include laminectomies with and without fusions, kyphoplasties and other spine procedures.

Laminectomies are surgical procedures in which the bony arches of one or more vertebrae are removed to relieve the symptoms of herniated disks, and kyphoplasties are minimally invasive surgical procedures that stabilize vertebral compression fractures using acrylic cement.

YWCA preteen girls summer camp

The Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley has awarded Beatitude House and YWCA Warren $25,000 for children’s summer camp collaboration for the preteen girls in both programs.

The summer camp will take place in August, spanning four weeks and focusing on girls in grades 5 through 8. Each week will have a different theme including wildlife, science, visual media and the Olympics. The camp will promote healthy self-esteem by increasing these girls’ educational foundations in science, math, and technology.

Free sinus seminar

COLUMBIANA

A free sinus treatment seminar is offered by otolaryngologist Dr. Wayland Wong, affiliated with Salem Community Hospital’s medical staff, on April 26 at Das Dutch Village Inn, 150 east state Route 14. At 6:30 p.m., participants can view displays and complete a paper sinus screening assessment. Dr Wong’s presentation, “New Trends in Sinus Treatment,” is at 7 p.m. Light refreshments will be provided and participants can register to win door prizes that may be helpful in providing sinus symptom relief.
