Pa. boy in murder case held until trial
NEW CASTLE, Pa. (AP) – After more than three years in custody, a western Pennsylvania boy charged with killing his father’s pregnant fianc and her unborn child will have a trial next week.
Lawrence County Judge John Hodge ruled after a hearing Tuesday that Jordan Brown, now 14, of Wampum, will remain in custody until his juvenile court trial next Tuesday.
Brown’s lawyers argued that he had been held too long in a juvenile detention center without a bond hearing or a trial, and should be released. Relatives of the victim opposed any pre-trial release.
Disagreement over whether the case should be in the adult or juvenile court system and whether court proceedings should be open to the public have occupied the case since Brown was charged in 2009.
