Hand count upholds Trumbull election results

WARREN

The audit done by the Trumbull County Board of Elections on Tuesday showed no change in the results of the March 6 primary election.

The audit, required by the 2009 settlement agreement reached in a civil suit filed by the League of Women Voters, involved hand counting 15 randomly selected precincts from throughout Trumbull County. The audit was done by Trumbull County elections board workers.

The races checked were the Democratic and Republican at-large presidential delegates, Democratic Ohio Supreme Court judgeship for the term beginning Jan. 2, 2013, and the Democratic race for Trumbull County sheriff.

The sheriff race was the only one selected by the Trumbull elections board. It was selected because it was Trumbull County’s only contested countywide race, said Kelly Pallante, Trumbull County Board of Elections director.

This was the second time Trumbull County had to conduct such an audit. The first one was after the general election of 2010. A similar audit will be conducted after this November’s general election.

The audit took about six hours and involved hand counting the votes cast by 1,985 Trumbull County residents.
