Affagato tosses two-hitter in Struthers win

Rachel Affagato pitched a two-hit complete game with eight strikeouts to lead Struthers High past Beaver Local, 3-1, in an All-American Conference softball game on Monday.

Affagato walked two and allowed one unearned run for Struthers (3-2).

Also for the Wildcats, Affagato had a triple and two singles and scored twice, Celeste Cavanaugh had two singles, Katie Jordan had a triple and double for two RBIs and Ashley Hefferon had a single and RBI.

For Beaver Local, Rotellini and Wheeler had a single apiece.

Poland 12, Fitch 2

POLAND

Taylor Miokovic belted a 3-run home run and Erin Gabriel picked up the win for Poland (3-0). The Bulldogs collected nine hits. Megan Carney went 3-for-3 with a double and RBI for the Falcons (3-3), while Alana Callahan had two hits.

Lordstown 12, Ledgemont 7

LORDSTOWN

Junior Sami Heverly had two doubles and one single, sophomore Brandy Pursell had a triple and single and sophomore Ally Hajnosz had a double and single for Lordstown (2-3).

Freshman Hailey Toporcer had seven strikeouts and five walks for the Red Devils.

M. DiFranco had two singles for Ledgemont (0-1).

LaBrae 26, Campbell 0

CAMPBELL

Kathleen Dieter, Jessica Bucks and Lindsay Moon each had two hits for LaBrae (3-0). The Vikings collected 10 hits, while Campbell had just one.

Springfield 11, Crestview 0

COLUMBIANA

Elyssa Burkey had a three-hitter with four strikeouts and one walk, while Samantha Semach, Kim Taylor and Devon Sowers had three hits apiece for Springfield (2-3).

The hitting of Sowers and Taylor including two doubles apiece.

Girard 8, Salem 3

GIRARD

Nico Maderitz had 10 strikeouts for Girard (4-2) and Nicole Mazzella collected a pair of RBIs.

Deana Walker belted a three-run home run for Salem.

Leetonia 20, McDonald 1

McDonald

It was a game with plenty of walks and just eight hits by Leetonia and McDonald combined.

For Leetonia, A. Mesmer struck out seven and Harris went 2-for-2.

For McDonald, Emily Magill doubled and scored McDonald’s lone run.

Lisbon 2, United 0

LISBON

Lisbon scored its runs in the third inning and finished with 17 strikeouts.

Krista McCartney and Taylor John had the only hits for United.
