YSU Theater presents ‘Rainbow Bar & Grille’

Staff report

YOUNGSTOWN

Youngstown State University Theater will present Bruce Graham’s comedy-drama “Early One Evening at the Rainbow Bar & Grille” for seven performances beginning Thursday.

Produced originally at the Philadelphia Festival for New Plays, “Rainbow Grille” is an offbeat variation on the saloon situation comedy.

As the play begins, most of mankind has been destroyed by a worldwide cataclysm. The regulars at the working-class Rainbow Bar & Grille are trying to decide what to do with what they think may be their last day on earth. God enters in the guise of a traveling salesman who offers to spare the bartender if he will write a new Bible and get it right this time.

“Rainbow Bar & Grille” is directed by faculty member Matthew Mazuroski. The cast includes Connor Bezeredi of Salem as Joe; Kayla Boye, Warren, as Virginia; Josh Fleming, Canfield, as Bullard; Tony Genovese, West Middlesex, Pa., as Willy; Patrick Hobby, Poland, as Roy; Joe Pascarell, Youngstown, as Shep; and Jessica Schmidt, Salem, as Shirley.

Due to Easter, there will be two Thursday performances and only one Sunday performance of “Rainbow Bar & Grille.”

All seats are general admission.

An opening-night dinner will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday at the MVR, 410 N. Walnut St. Tickets are $15 for season ticket holders and $20 for a dinner/theater ticket package for nonseason ticket holders.

Advance reservations and payment are mandatory; call the box office at 330-941-3105.

No walk-ins will be permitted.
