Authorities probe house explosion
salem
The state fire marshal’s office is expected to begin an investigation today into why a house exploded early Saturday.
The Salem Fire Department reported the house at 467 Aetna St. blew up about 1:20 a.m. Two tenants were home at the time but were not seriously injured, the department said. A puppy was taken to an animal hospital but should be fine, a report says.
By the time firefighters arrived, the house was completely engulfed and the houses on each side were starting to burn, the department said.
Ohio Edison arrived to secure live electrical wires, and Columbia Gas arrived to shut off the gas.
Two walls were blown out, and the tenants managed to escape on their own, the fire department said.
