50th anniversary gathers loved ones of Mr., Mrs. Scali

The Lake Club in Poland was the site of a cocktail and hors d’oeuvres party March 3 for family and friends of Richard and Janet Scali of Boardman in celebration of their 50th wedding anniversary.

On that date in 1962, the couple were married at St. Brendan Church in Youngstown.

Co-hosting the party were their children, Lori (Michael) Murphy of Canfield, Robin (Dino) Costello of Canfield and Richele (Dennis) Merdich of Youngstown.

Also hosting were the Scalis’ grandchildren, Rick and Matt Costello, Greg and Kate Merdich and Madison Murphy.

Mr. Scali, a Navy veteran, was co-owner of Mr. Steak in Boardman before going to work at RMI in Niles, where he retired in 2003. He works part-time for Valley Care Lab Services.

The former Janet Suttle retired from Boardman Local Schools in 2011 after working there 21 years as a special education aide. She also was the costumer for the drama department and the choral music department.

Mr. and Mrs. Scali are active members of St. Christine Church.
