Search teams intensified efforts Saturday to find renowned long-distance runner Micah True, who mysteriously vanished four days ago after heading out from a lodge for a morning run in the rugged wilderness near New Mexico’s Gila National Forest.

The 58-year-old True, whose extreme-distance running prowess is detailed in the book “Born to Run,” set out on what — for him — would have been a routine 12-mile run Tuesday from The Wilderness Lodge and Hot Springs, where he was staying. True, who left his dog behind at the lodge, never returned. A search began the next day.

Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood, in control of almost half the seats in parliament, announced Saturday it was fielding its own presidential candidate. It was a reversal of an earlier decision to stay out of the race and could put the group on a collision course with the nation’s ruling generals.

The Brotherhood nominated chief strategist and deputy leader Khayrat el-Shater, a multimillionaire businessman considered one of the key leaders guiding the group through the tumultuous transition since the ouster of Hosni Mubarak.

If he wins, it would make the formerly outlawed group the dominant force shaping the post-Mubarak era. But going head-to-head with the military is a major gamble for a formerly outlawed movement whose strategy for decades seemed to be to patiently bide its time.

147 killed in 6 days of clashes in Libya

TRIPOLI, Libya

Six days of tribal clashes in a remote desert town in southern Libya have killed 147 people, the country’s health minister said Saturday.

Fatma al-Hamroush said in a press conference in Tripoli that the fighting in Sabha also has left 395 wounded. About 180 people have been transported to the capital Tripoli for emergency treatment, she said.

The clashes in the oasis region some 400 miles south of Tripoli show the fragile authority of the Libyan government, particularly in the isolated settlements that dot the southern desert.

2 killed, 12 injured in funeral shooting

MIAMI

Authorities say 12 people were wounded and two shot dead when gunmen opened fire on mourners outside a Miami funeral home.

Miami-Dade Police say it happened Friday as services were taking place at the Funeraria Latina Emanuel.

One person died at the scene and another after being taken to a nearby hospital. The injured include a 5-year-old girl. Authorities said Saturday she is in stable condition.

Funeral home photographer Jaques Leonet says services for Marvin Andre were just finishing when a car drove by and opened fire onto a crowd of people outside. People screamed and fled for cover. Several were left bleeding on the ground.
