BELMONT, Ohio

Records indicate the small plane involved in a fatal crash in eastern Ohio is registered to a St. Louis-based nonprofit humanitarian group that works to help the poor.

Authorities say the single-engine plane crashed on a lawn east of Belmont on Friday night, killing the pilot.

Federal Aviation Administration records show the amateur-built aircraft was registered to Wings of Hope in Chesterfield, Mo.

Officials told WTRF-TV that the aircraft was homemade and crashed after a mechanical malfunction. No information about the person who died has been released.
