POLICE CALLS
A summary of recent criminal activity in Girard, Hubbard and Liberty:
GIRARD
Sept. 24
Burglary: To an apartment in the 300 block of Dearborn Street, from which $450 was stolen.
Menacing: A Lincoln Avenue man said another man threatened to come to the accuser’s residence and beat him up.
Menacing: A man in the 600 block of Trumbull Avenue told police another man threatened several times to kill him.
Sept. 25
Criminal damaging: Ten punctures were found in a Crumlin Avenue woman’s above-ground swimming pool after she reported it had been intentionally damaged.
Theft/vandalism: After the owners of Soft Touch Furniture Repair, Restoration & Upholstery, 1560 S. State St., reported hearing someone on the roof, police discovered a damaged electrical box and that an electric meter and copper wiring were missing.
Theft: A woman at a Market Avenue business reported a credit card and a cellphone stolen.
Drugs: Police on a traffic stop charged 22-year-old Joseph Derrico, 25 E. Liberty St., Girard, and Jason D. Sheets, 23, of 292 Louis Circle, Girard, with drug abuse and possession of drug paraphernalia after saying a glass pipe with suspected marijuana residue was found.
Theft: A $450 four-wheel vehicle was stolen in the 10 block of South Randolph Street.
Sept. 26
Menacing: An East Liberty Street man said neighbors threatened to beat him up.
Theft: Four 500-pound bridge bearings were stolen from a construction site near U.S. Route 422 and Interstate 80.
Theft: A $120 global-positioning-system unit was removed from a vehicle in the 200 block of Forsythe Avenue.
Theft: An East Prospect Street woman reported her daughter’s high-school band sign stolen from their yard.
Assault: A Trumbull Avenue woman told officers a man twisted her wrist during a custody dispute.
Burglary: Occurred in the 400 block of North St. Clair Avenue after someone had cut a kitchen-window screen. Stolen were a laptop computer and a cellphone.
Unauthorized use of a vehicle: A Patricia Drive woman said her boyfriend took but failed to return her 2005 Chevrolet vehicle.
HUBBARD
Sept. 21
Theft: An Elmwood Drive man discovered property missing from his car.
Arrest: Youngstown police picked up 36-year-old Tanja Manigault of Campbell, who was wanted on a warrant from Girard Municipal Court accusing her of failing to appear for a violation-of-probation hearing.
Menacing: A Caroline Avenue man said a woman has been harassing him.
Sept. 23
Drugs: Officers received a report of possible drug activity in the 100 block of North Main Street.
Sept. 24
Recovered property: A credit card was found near School Street and turned over to police.
Menacing: A Mackey Street woman reported someone sent a text message stating her vehicle would be damaged.
Recovered property: A Walnut Street man found his son’s bicycle after it had been reported stolen.
Harassment: A man noticed a vulgarity written in chalk on a driveway near Creekside Drive.
Sept. 25
Harassment: A Maple Ridge Road man told police a man sent the accuser’s daughter, 12, inappropriate messages.
Sept. 26
Arrest: Police took a Hubbard man, 49, into custody after a Moore Street woman said she wanted the intoxicated family member removed from the residence. No charges had been filed at the time of the report, however.
Harassment: A Collier Court woman reported getting such calls.
LIBERTY
Sept. 22
Theft: A toolbox and assorted tools were missing from a truck in the 4100 block of Monticello Boulevard.
Counterfeit: A fake $50 bill was passed at a Shell gas station, 3990 Belmont Ave.
Arrest: Authorities arrested 49-year-old Angelo Dourlas at his home, 2504 Fifth Ave., Youngstown. Dourlas was wanted on an outstanding warrant from Campbell Municipal Court charging him with a probation violation.
Attempted burglary: Someone tried to slide a window up to enter a residence in the 6700 block of Sodom-Hutchings Road.
Sept. 23
Criminal damaging: Someone in the 200 block of Church Hill-Hubbard Road placed glue in a vehicle’s driver’s-side door lock.
Domestic violence: Police charged 37-year-old Abdallah Khoury, 142 Brookline Ave., Youngstown, with the crime after a Belmont Avenue gas-station employee alleged Khoury had made two threats implying the accuser would be killed or harmed.
Drugs: David M. Leach, 41, of 1320 W. Montrose Ave., Liberty, faced charges of cocaine possession and criminal trespassing after police said a substance on a piece of paper he had tested positive for the drug. Leach also rode his bicycle on Walmart property, 200 Goldie Road, despite a judge’s order forbidding him to be there, a report showed.
Arrest: Austintown police turned James W. Minerd Jr., 29, over to township authorities. Minerd, of 31 Stambaugh St., Girard, was wanted on an outstanding warrant.
Sept. 24
Theft: A man in his early 20s stole a car charger from Walmart, struggled with a store official who tried to detain him, and fled.
Theft: A woman reported her wallet missing after leaving a Goldie Road business.
Stolen property: A stolen laptop computer was traced to a residence in the 20 block of Scott Lane.
Arrest: Morris P. Booker, 56, of 1671 Jacobs Road, Youngstown, was charged with driving under the influence after police pulled him over near Logan Gate Road.
Arrest: Youngstown police handed 51-year-old Gary D. Carter, 3141 Hadley Ave., Liberty, to township authorities. He was wanted on an outstanding warrant.
Arrest: Jeffrey A. McClellan, 28, of 2517 Chestnut St., Girard, was picked up on Goldie Road on a warrant from Niles.
Domestic violence: Virginia Wise, 32, and Gregory S. Cordy, 43, both of 122 Warner Road, Hubbard, were charged after Wise alleged Cordy had swung a baseball bat, punched and choked her during an argument about money. Cordy alleged Wise had struck him with a metal pipe and encouraged her dog to bite him, a report said.
Drugs: Authorities charged 27-year-old Megan R. Porter, 4 Marla Lane, Girard, with corrupting another person with drugs, a third-degree felony, after a 16-year-old boy alleged Porter had handed him a Xanax pill and tried to get him to take it.
Sept. 25
Theft: A Dublin, Ohio, woman discovered her $80 cellphone was stolen from her room at a Motor Inn Drive motel.
Arrest: Tashamarrae R. Pollard, 22, of 4081 Madison Road, Youngstown, faced charges of resisting arrest and disorderly conduct as police responded to someone trying to return a stolen item to Dollar General, 4425 Logan Way. Pollard was in a brief struggle with officers, who suffered minor injuries, and created a disturbance before being released on her own recognizance, a report said.
