BOARDMAN
The 35th annual Boardman Rotary Oktoberfest will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at Boardman Park off U.S. Route 224, west of South Avenue.
Vendors from five states will show their crafts at the one-day event. Admission is $3 for adults and children age 12 or older. Free parking is available on the west side of the park, near the Southern Boulevard entrance.
Autumn Fest set
Liberty
The Relay for Life of Liberty hosts Autumn Fest from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 15 in Center Park, behind the Liberty Township Administration Building.
Activities include a Halloween costume parade at 11:30 a.m., trick-or-treat from 12:15 to 1:30 p.m., pumpkin decorating and firetruck demonstrations.
A Night at the Races
BOARDMAN
Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 43, which includes Boardman officers, will have its annual fundraiser, A Night at the Races, on Saturday at the Operating Engineers Hall, 291 McClurg Road. Doors open at 6 p.m., and the races begin at 7 p.m. Tickets are available in advance in the police department lobby, 8299 Market St., or at the door the day of the event.
Activities include a basket auction for a mini-football helmet signed by professional football player James Farrior and a silent auction for Pittsburgh Steeler memorabilia, such as a football autographed by Ben Roethlisberger and a jersey signed by James Harrison. Proceeds will benefit the lodge’s scholarship and general funds.
Fire Safety Day
BOARDMAN
The township fire department will have its annual Fire Safety Day from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 8 at 196 Boardman-Canfield Road.
The event will include tours of the fire station, a live burn demonstration, fire- extinguisher training, the smoke house and extrication demonstrations.
Children also will receive free helmets, stickers and coloring books.
Park ribbon-cutting
LEAVITTSBURG
The Trumbull County MetroParks Board invites the public to attend a ribbon- cutting at 11 a.m. Oct. 7 at the Thomas A. Swift MetroPark, 764 Benedict-Leavittsburg Road.
The event will mark the opening of the new park, which will provide canoeing and kayaking opportunities as well as a location for walking and birding.
Ski party set
NILES
A preseason ski party at McMenamy’s Restaurant and Banquet Center, 325 Youngstown-Warren Road, at 6 p.m. Oct. 19, will benefit the Warren Family Mission.
The free party will feature representatives from many area ski resorts.
Those attending are asked to bring nonperishable items for the mission to help area families.
