Search for missing man continues near Mahoning River

YOUNGSTOWN — Boats returned to the Mahoning River this morning, searching for a Boardman who hasn’t been seen since Sunday night.

James Donofrio, owner of Avalon Gardens on Belmont Avenue, left his home at about 9 p.m. Sunday and family members haven’t seen or heard from him since.

City police found his SUV with his wallet, phone and briefcase inside abandoned Monday morning on the railroad tracks under the Market Street bridge downtown.

Nancy Donofrio, James Donofrio’s sister-in-law, said boats returned to the Mahoning River this morning and the family awaits word.
