McDonald, Maplewood win titles

MCDONALD

McDonald, Maplewood and Howland dominated the Trumbull County cross country meet on Tuesday.

Those teams finished in the top three in both the boys and girls races.

McDonald won the boys championship with 29 points, followed by Maplewood (62) and Howland (71).

In the girls race, Maplewood won with 35 points, followed by Howland (40) and McDonald (63).

Patrick Kunkel of McDonald won the boys race in 16 minutes, 57.1 seconds, followed by teammate Kyle Joynes (17:04.3), Nathan Sutton of Howland (17:08.2), Wyatt Hartman of Maplewood (17:20.8) and Bobby Johnson of McDonald (17:27.8).

Morgan Buckley of Howland won the girls race in 20:40.8. Alanna Shamrock of Maplewood was second (20:57.1) and Sarah Jones of McDonald came in third (21:09.0).

COLUMBIANA COUNTY

EAST PALESTINE

The United boys and Salem girls ran to championships at the Columbiana County cross country meet at City Park.

United was led by James Kataro, who finished third overall in 18:28.24.

The Golden Eagles scored 34 points, defeating East Liverpool (55), East Palestine (62) and Columbiana (64).

Nate Boyer of East Liverpool was the overall winnr in 17:41.44. Chad Bosel of Lisbon was second in 18:13.02.

Salem won the girls title with 27 points, followed by East Palestine (61), Lisbon (62) and United (75).

Columbiana’s Ashley Lydic won the race in 20:38.96, while Bobbi Jo Evans of Lisbon was second (20:47.21) and Allison Parks of United was third (20:48.67).
