Club to kick off expansion of water-monitoring program
Staff report
COLUMBIANA
The Salt Springs Group Sierra Club will kick off the expansion of its water- monitoring program at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Columbiana Public Library, 332 N. Middle St.
The goal of the program is to give local community groups and individuals the tools and knowledge to effectively monitor water quality.
Working with the Sierra Club Ohio Chapter Clean Water Campaign, the Salt Springs Group will provide free water-testing kits, training, and sample data to participating groups and individuals. The testing kits are multiple-use and enable landowners to obtain a solid baseline of water quality prior to natural-gas drilling in the area.
The Saturday event will include a free screening of the documentary “Gasland.” For more information, email SaltSprings-SierraClub@gmail.com.
