A household hazardous-waste collection for Mahoning County residents will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Canfield Fairgrounds. Those with last names beginning with A through F should enter between 9 and 11 a.m.; G through N from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.; and O through Z between 1 and 3 p.m. via Gate 9 on Route 46 and exit via Leffingwell Road. Among the items that will be accepted are oil-based and spray paints, bleach, solvents, poisons, stains, thinners, greases, pesticides, acids, antifreeze, gasoline, aerosol cans, lighter fluid, roof coatings, varnish, caulks, used motor oil and other automotive fluids, mercury, pool and photo chemicals, propane cylinders, adhesives and glue, car batteries, household cleaners, herbicides and insecticides and cylinder fluorescent light bulbs.No explosives, tires or latex paint will be accepted in the drive sponsored by the county’s recycling division.

Stabbing in Niles

A person was stabbed at Kitty’s Drive Thru, 235 North Main Street, at 3:04 a.m. Sunday, according to Niles police. The victim was taken by his mother to St. Joseph Health Center for treatment.

Unity Day in Warren

Someplace Safe Inc., Trumbull County’s domestic violence agency, will celebrate Unity Day at 11:30 Monday. Unity Day is part of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, which is observed throughout October in the U.S. Trumbull County’s ceremony will be at The First United Methodist Church, 309 North Park Ave. Guest speaker will be Caroline Andrews, domestic violence advocate for Warren Municipal Court. Domestic violence victims can reach the 24/7 hotline by calling 330-393-3005.

Innocent plea

WARREN

Erika Carper, 35, of Ravenwood Avenue, Youngstown, pleaded innocent Monday to felonious assault in the stabbing of a 49-year-old Union Street Southwest man Friday morning. She is in the Trumbull County jail in lieu of $25,000 bond. Police said the stabbing took place at 11:30 a.m. at the victim’s house and that Carper left on foot afterward. An officer spotted her nearby and took her into custody. The victim was taken to ValleyCare Trumbull Memorial Hospital. If convicted, Carper could get eight years in prison.
