DIVISION II

VIENNA

Led by Steve Perry’s 18-hole total of 77, Cardinal Mooney took first place in the boys Division II sectional golf tournament at Candywood Golf Club. The Cardinals had a team score of 313 to edge second-place Poland, with 315. Hubbard (324) and South Range (326) also qualified their teams to next week’s district tournament at Windmill Lakes in Ravenna. Also for Mooney, Dom Patella shot 78, and Max Pikunas and Cory Stefanec shot 79s. Poland was led by Jason McQuown’s 75, while Sean McMahon and Mark Passarello had 79s and Dave Shoftstall finished with an 82. Justin Hallapy’s 73 paced Hubbard. Nick Humphries added an 83, while Alex Godin and Aaron Loveless finished with 84s. South Range’s Brandon Pluchinsky led his team with a 74, while Matt Rhodes shot 81, Michael Veneskey had an 84 and Brennan Allen an 87. The Raiders were tied with Lakeview for the fourth qualifying spot, but had the better fifth-man score. The overall medalist was Thomas Lydic of Champion, who shot 70. He advanced to the district tournament as an individual qualifier, joined by Newton Falls’ Logan Beechy (74), Champion teammate Mitch Weaver (75) and Salem’s Bart Wyss (77).

DIVISION III

SALEM

St. Thomas Aquinas, Leetonia and Columbiana advanced to district tournament next weekend. St. Thomas scored 329, while Leetonia finished with 350 and Columbiana had 364 in the sectional at Salem Golf Club. Daniel Mosher of St. Thomas was the overall medalist with a 79, while teammates Anthony Frank and Alex Miday shot 82. Leetonia’s Luce Janci led his team with an 82, while Nick Altomare shot 87, Josh Faulkner shot 90 and Tyler Kegelmyer added a 91. For Columbiana, Nathan Garofalo shot 85, Kyle Bryan had a 90, Clayton Cooper shot a 93 and Joe Munyon had a 96. The three qualifying individuals not on an advancing team were Robert Logan of Crestview (85), Nate Ramondi of Lake Center Christian (85) and Mark Noel of Springfield (87). The district tournament is Oct. 6 at Seven Hills Country Club in Hartville.
